Every time we offer a program or service for our mothers, we also offer child care. In fact, it’s one of our most valued services. Knowing your child is feeling loved and is in caring hands is a real gift! Our moms say it’s “priceless” to be able to concentrate in a class or enjoy uninterrupted time with friends. It’s not unusual for us to have 12-15 children…sometimes more…in there every Monday through Thursday morning. PLUS, with our SFI cohorts and the afternoon/evening sessions provided by the Anaheim Family Resource Center every week, the childcare room is the most used room in the building…by far!
Miss Teresa and her capable volunteers work all kinds of magic with what they have. However, it’s been eight years of “hard labor” for that room and it needs a little TLC!
Giving Tuesday is a unique opportunity for us this year. In partnership with The Home Depot we’re giving our childcare room a much needed makeover. It’s not really a matching gift, however. Home Depot has agreed to provide material goods: the cabinets, organizing units, paint and flooring – worth about $3,000. You can see the plans above with a little “before and after” comparison. Now the cabinet and flooring mockups (and gray paint) don’t have all the colorful, cute stuff to make it a kids’ room, so…. We are hoping to get an additional $2,500 to install a video system, new white boards, another rocking chair, new décor and some new toys (including a slide that folds up to make more floor space!). If we can get to $3,500 we can also redo some lighting and get a small refrigerator. The other BIG piece of this is all the volunteer labor we will use for demo and installation – that’s why we can do this so inexpensively.
Our mission is to help build strong mothers to strengthen families. We could not do what we do without people and facilities to provide great child care. Make an investment in families tomorrow for Giving Tuesday – any gift is appreciated – and help us as we keep building that pathway to hope!
